Recent research: suggests that low vitamin D may be a factor in hair loss, along with low iron. Please see your doc who may check these levels and tell you proper dose of either if necessary. Peace and good health. Stress can also be a factor. A more remote possibility is alopecia, an autoimmune condition, which a dermatologist can help with.

Depends on cause...: One's primary care doctor can check for medical causes. If none are found, then one can see a dermatologist, especially one specializing in hair restoration (some treatments: minoxidil, finasteride, hair transplants,...). Medical causes may include: hormonal problems (low thyroid), seborrhea, alopecia areata, stressful illness. Other causes: genetic male/female pattern baldness, telogen effluvium.
