Variable: The history of mitral valve prolapse is variable from person to person. Some people have prolapse with no or minimal regurgitation of the valve. They may need suveillence with echocardiogram but never need any other intervention. Some may progress to severe valve leakage and need a replacement or repair. Some may develop some rhythym abnormalities that also require treatment.
