Diastolic BP: Blood pressure is generally reported with two numbers: the systolic (top) number, & the diastolic (bottom, lower) number. Both are important, & high blood pressure is a cause of stroke, kidney disease, & heart disease. If the blood pressure is consistently high in a young person, evaluation for treatable causes of secondary hypertension may be indicated.
