Not likely allergy: It would be highly unlikely that she would develop allergy at age 82.Many elderly patients have problems with nonallergic rhinitis. Paint fumes are a significant irritant for many people. Start by ventilating the space. Saline sinus rinses with a netti pot or squeeze bottle could be helpful. Prescription nasal sprays can be helpful, including steroids, antihistamines, and ipratropium.
