A member asked:

Sore throat, posterior neck pain (sudden in onset)& headache x2wks. last night woke up w/stabbing throat pain- still hurts, but less. no fevers. ddx?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doctor can examine: New throat pain can be from strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies. Usually, a person sees a doctor if the sore throat illness is bothersome (as in this case), coming with other symptoms (head and neck pain in this case) recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat).
