A member asked:

Why is it when i have period i get disminorhea?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cause not known: The cause of dysmenorrhea, or menstrual cramps, is not known in all details. If it were, there probably would be a remedy for it. In the meantime, doctors either recommend going on a birth control pill, or taking pain medication that interferes with prostaglandin metabolism. It is not known, either, why some women do not suffer from dysmenorrhea at all, while others suffer a lot.
