Mefenamic acid?: It is a non steroidal aniinfalmatory drug that works against the prostaglandins that are secreted in the uterus and causes it to cramp. It keeps bleeding under control and also pain. It is similar to ibuprofen, Naproxen , Ketoprofen and others in the same class of meds. As it control the prostaglandins bleeding during periods may slow which is why drs give it.
