Everyone's body: temperature is higher at night, than earlier in the day, even when there is no fever. So, when there is a fever, it will be naturally higher at night/evening (unless fever reducing medication is taken).

Biorhythms: The body has a natural cycle to it. Fever, for example, will increase more towards the late afternoon after you've been active during the day. Temperatures will tend to go down at night (if you've ever woken up at night feeling chilly that is partly why) -- it's related to the body's metabolism. With an infection, the temperature set point (thermostat) will be altered so this is a general rule.
