No: Rarely is this is a sign of a serious problem. Many children bang their heads as a way of "self soothing." the best approach is to make sure they are in a safe environment where they cannot hurt themselves and to try to distract the from the behavior. If worsening behavior or other symptoms develop, speak with your pediatrician about this.

HeadBanging maybe ok: Head banging is ok if it happens once in a while, if a baby is otherwise normally developing, and the baby outgrows it and doesn't do it later. Babies like to interact with their environment, which includes hitting things with the hands, kicking things with the feet, and banging things with the head. However, in a baby who behaves oddly in any other way, headbanging may be a serious problem.

Generally No: If your baby is otherwise healthy and developing normally, headbanging is either a " pacifier" mechanism or an expression of anger, a temper tantrum. In either case, it is best ignored. With an otherwise normal child, it is almost never a sign of of a brain condition. Also children who bang their heads do not cause any serious injury other than an occasional bruise.

Usually not: Most children will bang their head to get attention. Usually, this is not significant for anything in particular.
