Much of the dietary: advice is well known. Some people benefit from the encouragement and accountability of working with a dietician, or nutritionist. Exercise is key, increasing metabolism and generating a positive feeling of wellbeing. It is not easy forcing dietary or lifestyle change upon oneself. One way might be to reflect on why you are feeling and tired and strained and ask what you could do differerently?

Weight gain: The solution lies with in you. Will need to work at cause of stress. if depressed, seek counselling . If you can't control the quantity you eat, then try to change the quality of food and take low carb food. eventually you have to burn out more and take in less to reduce weight. Get you bloods done by your GP to make sure your thyroid functions are fine and they are not playing up in the equation

Eating habits: Determination is very important to change eating habits. It helps to get support from dietician or nutritionist or even having another family member or friend as a buddy and make changes together. http://patient.info/health/weight-reduction-how-to-lose-weight

Book for you: I recommend "Lose Weight for Life" by Claire Turnbull. NZ generated, scientific evidence based, has a chapter at the end which addresses this. Good luck.

Sublimate: All the answers make sense. Consider when you are feeling down asking why or what causes it. Then try to redirect these feelings to a positive activity. It could be exercise, cleaning the house, calling a friend or relative. If you have a sense of what is happening use your will power.

See a dietitian: I would recommend seeing a dietician and adopting a healthy exercise routine in your daily life. You may also want to see your doctor for a blood workup to ensure your thyroid hormones are functioning well. If you have depression symptoms please talk to your GP about treating this.
