Liver damage: Any history of alcohol abuse or exposure to possible toxic substances? A hepatologist or gastroenterologist is best qualified to supervise the workup and decide whether a liver biopsy is advisable. Dietary advice is needed. Abstinence from alcohol is important to prevent any potential further liver damage.
