Epididymitis : In young men is usually due to an std like chlamydia, gonorrhea, etc. Suggest seeing urologist to be tested & receive appropriate treatment. Prostatitis in young men is unusual; so urologic exam is warranted for that, too.

Prostatitis: Prostatitis is common any time after puberty. It is not uncommon for it to extend to the epididymis. It is most often caused by your own body's bacteria. If symptoms have been present for 8 months, you definitely need a urologic exam.
