Elevated WBC: Hi Richard, elevated wbc can come from several sources, including but not limited to infection, inflammation and steroid use. However I haven't seen a wbc count that high due to those reasons. Inflammation can certainly happen after a major surgery. Diagnosing the reason for the elevated wbc in the case that you provide would require additional testing. Hope that helps!
