Many possibilities: If one eye looks different than the other, you should have the baby evaluated by a pediatric ophthalmologist.

Conjunctivitis: Could be a bacterial or allergic conjunctivitis. See eyemd. In meantime, wipe all discharge away with warm (hot but not burning) clean towel. Your md may rx an antibiotic or other drop/ointment.
