Abnormal periods: Occasional slight variation in period can be normal but persistent changes need to be addressed. Pregnancy and pregnancy related conditions are the commonest reasons for the change , though the reason for change can range from things like sexually transmitted diseases to polycystic ovaries to fibroids which are benign growths in uterus to sinister things like cancer in uterus or cervical cancer.

Period: You are having an irregularity in your cycle which is usually nothing to worry about and the dark red just symbolizes "older blood". I am presuming you have checked pregnancy test? Sounds like you are having your period, just late though.
