Pregnancy test: The most important cause to know when a woman's cycle becomes irregular is a potential pregnancy. If pregnancy has been ruled out, waiting for the irregularity to work itself out is a reasonable approach. However, if the pregnancy test is positive when the cycle becomes irregular, a gynecologist needs to be involved.
