Infection of LRT: Lower resp. tract. Usual age 2yrs or less. Initially starts like a common cold but inflammation of the lower part of the respiratory tract causes blockage of the airway which may result in respiratory difficulty requiring hospitalization. Viruses are usual agents, treatment is directed at hydration and supporting the respiratory system. Resolution usually after 1 week.

Mucous!: A very common childhood illness caused by a viral infection. Results in increased secretions, cough, wheeze and sometimes shortness of breath. There is often confusion between this and asthma (there is probably some overlap in the diagnoses). Clearing secretions from the nose in very young children makes a big difference. It does not respond to antibiotics. Sometimes ventolin helps a little.
