A member asked:

Should lexapro (escitalopram) be given to a very thin person who is elderly, hates meds and has alz?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It depends: Lexapro (escitalopram) is not contraindicated in the elderly, nor is it contraindicated in people with alzheimers nor someone who is very thin. It would be important to have someone like this followed very regularly, preferably by a geriatric psychiatrist. If the cause for thinness is due to depression then treating the depression could actually help stimulate appetite.
