Ankylosis: Hip stiffness is typically a term used to describe a loss of range of motion of the hip joint or an increased resistance to rom of the hip joint. Ankylosis is the medical term for loss of range of motion of a joint. Although there are multiple potential causes, by far the most common cause of hip stiffness is osteoarthritis of the hip.
