Tendonitis: The patella tendon connects the kneecap to the tibia. Tendonitis is an overuse syndrome. The best treatment is rest, ice and an anti-inflammatory early. Followed by a course of pt to regain range of motion and strength.

Patellar tendinitis: If your pain is just below your knee cap, you could have patellar tendinitis. If the pain is deep under the knee cap, it is more likely patella femoral pain syndrome/chondromalacia patella. See your doctor to find out for sure & for treatment recommendations.
