Nerve entrapment: The term compression neuropathy refers to the development of signs or symptoms related to mechanical compression of a peripheral nerve. A common example is carpal tunnel syndrome, in which the median nerve can become compressed as it passes through the carpal tunnel potentially causing pain, numbness and atrophy in the hand and fingers. There are many more examples throughout the body.
