RMSF: Rocky Mountain spotted fever is usually caused when a person is bit by a tick carrying a pathogen called Rickettsia rickettsii. It may take 1 to 2 weeks for symptoms/ signs to appear. There is often a red rash which does not itch. It usually begins on ankles or wrists & can spread both up & down. Other symptoms can include: nausea/ vomiting, headache, muscle pain, high fever, chills & insomnia.
