An active viral: infection that is present at birth. Usually the virus is acquired from a maternal infection that crosses the placenta. Examples include but are not limited to Rubella, hepatitis, HVI, cytomegalovirus, varicella, enteroviruses and many others. Some affect the infant while others do not.
