What is the definition or description of: lost mucus plug?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mucus from Cervix: During Pregnancy, the cervical canal is plugged with mucus. During the later stages of pregnancy, the mucus plug can come out of the cervix and is seen by the expecting mother. This is a "lost" mucus plug. It may reform and mean nothing. Sometimes--especially if bloody, it heralds the onset of labor.
