Doctor can evaluate: Upper abdominal pain can be from gallstones, pancreatitis, "acid" gastritis pains with or without a stomach ulcer, or stomach reflux (heartburn). An infection with H. pylori bacteria can lead to stomach ulcer pains (an acid blocker can help). One needs evaluation by her primary doctor, and sometimes a surgeon. Heart disease, rib and cartilage problems, or various cancers can also cause such pain.
