Menses: Are you taking any medicines? When did you start having a period? Brown blood or staining is old blood. When you cut your finger at first it is bright red. As the iron in blood oxidizes it goes from bright red to dark red to brown. As blood transits from your cervix to the outside it is oxidized and depending on transit time can be brown by the time it exits your vagina.
