Anovulation: Yu've experienced a missed cycle. These are most commonly due to anovulation. This occurs when the ovary fails to release an egg. This alters hormonal levels which disrupts the cycle.

Possibilities: Spotting prior to period can occasionally occur prior to the onset of bleeding and not be a cause for worry, but there are other causes of irregular bleeding: pregnancy, fibroids, endometriosis, stds, infection, a cervical or uterine polyp. See your doctor to find out for sure.
