A member asked:

My periods are usually extremely heavy with severe cramps and nausea. i am not sexually active but would birth control help in my situation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It may: There are birth control pills that can limit your periods to 3-4 times a year or even prevent the periods entirely. You should discuss it with your doctor. You may also wish to take oral iron supplement to maintain your iron levels. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine.
