Harmful: Infusion of plain water intravenously, even if it's sterile, can potentially cause destruction of your red blood cells(hemolysis), although it would have to be a larger volume to cause severe hemolysis. The destroyed red blood cells cause damage to kidney tubules. Don't mess with your iv line!!

Nothing: No problem. The main risk would be infection if the water (or the injection technique was not sterile.
