Varies: If you are being tested for Cushing’s disease and are taking birth control then your doctor may prefer to do a urine cortisol collection. This gets around the problem of Estrogen increasing free Cortisol in the blood. Alternatively your doctor may stop your birth control for about 4-6 weeks to get an accurate Cortisol level. Management decisions should be handled individually.
