A member asked:

Why do i not react to coconut oil if i am allergic to coconut? is the protein allergen absent from the oil? i know oil is not an allergen by the fda.

Correct: Purified oils do not contain proteins, and the proteins are what causes reactions. That being said, how does one know how purified the oil is? Most people don't take chances with uncertain oils, but if the allergic reactions to the food are minor, and she has used the same oil at the same restaurant or from the same factory... maybe it's ok to use or eat. Life is always about risks vs. benefits.
