A member asked:

What can cause a dilated colon, bloating, unable to go to the bathroom and constant stomach pain? she had ecoli in may and gut hasn't recovered well.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Gastroenterologist: These symptoms warrant an evaluation and I recommend that a gastroenterologist do it. She may need rectal laxative suppositories or gentle enemas. The abdominal distress and dilated colon are concerning and raise the question of partial large intestinal obstruction or loss of bowel tone. Because of abdominal pain, potent oral laxatives should not be given unless ok'd after her examination.
