Normally: when there is gas build up within the esophagus and/or stomach the valve at the top of the esophagus (upper esophageal sphincter) relaxes to release this pressure. Like many sphincters, it is controlled by smooth muscle which may not function perfectly. It could be classified as a motility/movement disorder of the GI tract. If it persists, I would see a gastroenterologist for endoscopy/evaluation.
