Dose high/nontoxic: The standard adult dose is 10 mg daily but children over 60 pounds I started on the adult dose. That being said, Allergist will often use cetirizine (the generic name for Zyrtec) and loratadine at much higher doses then the manufacturer recommends for patients with severe allergies. This class of nonsedating anti histamineshas a very safe profile
