Reflux: The best way to manage reflux is through diet and lifestyle changes. It may help avoid medications. Avoid acidic, spicy, and large meals. Limiting alcohol, coffee, and chocolate can be helpful. Never eat within four hours of laying down. Losing weight, exercise after meals, and eating smaller portioned meals have been shown to help as well. PPI medications can be used and are very effective.

Variety of things: Hi Darrin As Dr Singh has mentioned. Another factor can be stress. Weight loss while easier said than done can be very helpful. If medication fails or if you do develop swallowing difficulties or weight loss or are on antiinflammatories or blood thinners please see a doctor in case more serious disease is occuring.

Caffeine: Caffeine causes reflux by relaxing the sphincter between your oesophagus and stomach which allows the acid to regurgitate up and cause the burning sensation. Reducing coffee, tea or chocolate intake one effective way to help control symptoms.
