Tachy-brady: Sometimes patients with atrial fibrillation develop periods of fast & slow heart rate response. Medicines (eg beta blockers) are generally very good at controlling the rate from being too fast, but if it is also too slow at times, and especially if associated with symptoms, then a pacemaker device may be needed as well.
