Sometimes: Skyla and Mirena (levonorgestrel) are IUD's that put out a little bit of progesterone hormone continuously. There may be some irregular bleeding and spotting the first 3-6 months, but after that, one's periods can become shorter, lighter, or not happen at all. If an IUD has no hormones, one's periods should continue to happen as usual. For reassurance, one can do a home urine pregnancy test (are very accurate).
