A member asked:

My mom has the flu and she said that she her friend had on the air conditioner for 12 hours straight. can you get the flu from that. ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: The seasonal flu (influenza) is not related to air conditioners. The air conditioner does not transmit the flu. One catches the flu by breathing in the air coming out of another person's nose or mouth, especially if the other person sneezes or coughs. One can also catch the flu by touching contaminated items that a sick person coughed or sneezed into, and then touching one's own nose.
