Consult if unsure: A round, red, itchy and swollen area is likely from an insect bite with a sensitivity or allergic reaction to substances in the insects secretions. If the area of redness has progressively enlarged or become tender a secondary bacterial infection is a possibility. Taking an OTC antihistamine like Zyrtec or Allegra, (fexofenadine) along with an NSAID like ibuprofen will help the swelling. If infected> antibiotic.
