I've had three visual auras right upon waking up within the month. seeing a neurologist soon. any insight into waking and having the visual aura?

They do this: they can occur on awakening. There is really nothing unusual about this. Auras are most commonly caused by migraines. Occasionally and aura can be due to an underlyilng seizure disorder. I would be curious as to what kind of visual aura you have. (wavy lines, flashing lights, etc.).
