Yes, normal: Yes, you can have fairly heavy bleeding and cramping for the first 3 days. Symptoms that are concerning would be fevers, chills (signs of infection), or bleeding to the point where you feel weak and dizzy (signs of anemia). For those type of symptoms I would seek medical attention. You can take Tylenol (acetaminophen) +/or Ibuprofen for the pain.
