Shingles or herpes on scrotum, how to tell difference? it's only on the left side of his scrotum. it's also on the left side of his buttocks.

Probably shingles: Herpes zoster (shingles) sounds much more liikely. Genital herpes typically dosn't involve either buttocks or scrotum, especially both. Singles rash is usually more severe, more pain and more sores turning into black scabs. Lab testing can confirm which virus is responsible, and you also need a prescription for treatment. See your doctor ASAP; treatment most effective the sooner it's started.
