For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex.

Numbers are numbers: Lab result numbers are just numbers, so one needs to see the whole picture. A TSH above 4 can mean her thyroid gland is having trouble producing enough thyroid hormone. Some patients have symptoms of low thyroid hormones (hypothyroidism) with TSH values in the 3's and 4's. That is why a doctor's evaluation and care is needed, not just a single number.
