Doctor can help: Each child with constipation needs to be sure there is no other disease causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, then the things to try are vegetables, prune juice, prunes, fiber with water, Miralax, (polyethylene glycol) Senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, an occasional enema, other laxatives... Fixing childhood constipation early helps avoid later problems.

Worrisome: By following this pattern your son has stretched out his colon & made it difficult to empty. You need to get with his doc, & plan a long term approach to bowel rehab. If his doc is not familure with this, find a developmental ped or Pedi GI to help. The goal will be at least daily emptying by the end of 6m.It is a frustrating process but one that can help him restore normal function and end pain
