You may: need antibiotics ...infection in that area can be very serious if it spreads upward! I woukl first of all remove the ring (I know the hole may seal up but a FOREIGN BODY makes healing an infection impossible!! Hot Wet SOAKS until you can get this evaluated by a Health Care Provider...... Hope this helps! Dr Z

A 40-year-old member asked:

How do I know my nose piercing is infected?

Very rare: It is very unusual for these to get infected but tue signs are increasing redness, swelling, drainage, tenderness, warmth. A sensitivity or allergy to metals, particularly nickel, can look like an infection and may respond to a change to titanium or a purer gold.
A 31-year-old member asked:

How do I heal the annoying red bump on my nose piercing hole?

Dr. Phillip Frist

Remove piercing.: Hopefully the bump is just healing and a little secondary infection where you made the mistake in placing the piercing. If so, keep clean, place tripple antibiotic ointment or cream on the outer surface and hopefully the infection will resolve and heal. If the piercing is still there, remove it.

I got my nose pierced 3 months ago and now I have a bump next to the piercing. Could it be infected?

YES: Indolent infections in this area are often from staph infections. Removing the piercing appliance, cleansing with peroxide, moist hot compresses, and neosporin ointment type topical antibiotics may be enough. If worsening, see md for stronger antibiotics.

Septal piercing?: Perichondritis can occur with septal piercing. Keloid scar may develop with piercing. Recommend evaluation by dermatologist at this time.
A 49-year-old member asked:

Please explain why is my nose piercing constantly red?

It could be infected: Especially if red, tender or swollen or has drainage. Or you could be allergic to the metal if it contains any nickle.
