Doctor can check: Unexplained bruising in an adult may be a sign of a disease. Her primary care doctor can examine the bruises. Blood tests may be needed, if her doctor wants to know if the blood counts and blood clotting times are normal. Some disorders cause small blood vessels to become fragile, and can lead to bruising. Taking medication that causes "blood thinning" can cause bruising, too. Best to get an exam.
