Do any of you know what a vagus nerve stimulater is?

Yes I do: Vns is a device that is used to stimulate the vagus nerve in the neck to help control seizures. It is used when medications have proven to not be adequate and the patient is not a candidate for epilepsy surgery of the conventional type. Vns needs to be adjusted with a wand that is used over the skin of the chest and can be activated with a magnet placed over the device.

Seizure treatment: Vns is an fda-approved treatment for patients with refractory partial epilepsy (over age 12). It is a matchbook-sized device implanted under the skin in the upper left chest with a wire that connects to the left vagus nerve (in the neck). It is programmed by your neurologist to provide electrical stimulation for 30 seconds at 5 minute intervals. It can be a very effective treatment.
