Probably hip related: As best I understand what you are describing, it is probably related to the relative "version" of the hip. In patients with ante version, the femoral neck is rotated forward and patients will tend to walk with foot pointed in; in retro version, the opposite occurs and patients foot will rotate out further. An exam can easily detect this and other possible causes.
