Allergic rash: The most likely explanation is an acute allergic reaction to the shrimp. If this has happened before after eating shrimp or shellfish then that is certain. Initial treatment for red itchy allergic rash is antihistamines (eg, diphenhydramine or Benadryl). After future exposure, if any sign of lip or tongue swelling, generalized itching, or wheezing, get immediate emergency care.
