A member asked:

What is the function of lactic acid in the body? if depleted what happens?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Probably Nothing: Lactic acid is the byproduct of your cells when they metabolize sugars without oxygen. This is what happens when you go for a long run... Lactic acid accumulates in your tired muscles and causes a burning sensation. If depleted, probably not much happens... Lactic acid can accumulate for lots of other reasons too, but generally related to a lack of oxygen.
